Indian Police hunt for monkey god

Monday, July 30, 2007

Kim Dang Moon, of South Korea recently made a complaint regarding reading glasses that were stolen from his hotel room. Indian Police in the town of Varanasi are now hunting the perpetrator, but this case won't be the average search for a criminal. This one has no criminal file, no fingerprints on record...

The accused in this case is a monkey.

Kim, in his report to police states, that he opened his hotel window for fresh air, and the monkey swooped in and grabbed his glasses.

One thing that complicates the case. In Varanasi, the monkey is considered by many to be the reincarnation of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman. This particular monkey is one of thousands of monkeys that roam freely through the city.

A police inspector, Govind Singh, stated that "it is difficult to trace the monkey, but I am doing my best to locate the roque".

The hotel staff have since recovered part of the frame.

Kim filed the report so he could claim the glasses on his travel insurance.
